Product Description

This novel spans across the ups and downs of 3-4 generations of a ‘Khot’ family residing in the village of Tumbaad, starting from the post Peshwa period when the British have just begun to get a firm foothold in the country and flowing across to mid-20th century, a few decades after independence from the British.

Early on in the novel, one of the Khot brothers decides (and with very valid reasons) to move out of the ancestral home (‘waadaa’) and settle down at a nearby village of Limbaad, thereby leading to the Tumbaad branch (Tumbaadkar) and the Limbaad branch (Limbaadkar) of the family in the rest of the book.

Throughout the novel, the author treats us to a whole spectrum of characters – some quite deceitful, others very benevolent, some spiteful, others forgiving / dutiful, some very, very gifted, some driven & rebellious and others plain resigned to their fate – and the ancestral home and the Jagbudi river bearing witness to all of this drama. All in all, well worth the time invested in reading it!
